The Popular Anua Heartleaf 77% Clear Pads’ Review

To pair along with the Anua Heartleaf ampoule (review here) I’ve been recently trying out - I’ve also been starting my mornings with the Anua Heartleaf toner pads!

As I mention in the review for the ampoule, heartleaf aka Houttuynia Cordata, is known for its soothing properties as well as anti-aging and anti-acne benefits (MDPI, 2022 study), and with me really enjoying the ampoule, perhaps I’d recommend the toner pads as well?

Let’s get into the details below!

The Anua Heartleaf 80 Soothing Ampoule comes in a cute and simple frosted glass dropper bottle.

Anua Heartleaf 77% Pads - Quick Facts:

Formulation: cruelty- free, fragrance-free, paraben-free

Scent: no scent

Texture: the toner pads are a medium thickness (very well saturated) and have one side that is smooth, and the other is more bumpy

Price: $36 CAD regularly, currently on sale for $31

Where to buy: Dewbeauty.ca (based in Vancouver, BC)

Main pros: I have very sensitive skin and typically stay away from any kind of exfoliators - so I typically use toners + cotton rounds to gently exfoliate. Having these pads pre-soaked really takes away an extra step for me and since the formula is so gentle, it doesn’t irritate my skin at all! (The Needly ones, after using for 1-2 weeks on and off, has been actually quite irritating).

Although these toner pads are gentle, I still don’t use these pads every day. Only for nights after cleansing off makeup - and I usually still do see a bit of makeup/dead skin residue left on the pads so they’re doing their job!

Cons: Nothing particularly notable - I’ve seen a review that mentioned they like to start from the bottom of the pads stack first, but imo the first layer is already pretty saturated with essence!

Anua Heartleaf 77% Clear Pad Ingredients:

Houttuynia Cordata Extract (77%), Water, Gluconolactone, Propanediol, Tromethamine, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Betaine, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Ulmus Davidiana Root Extract, Pueraria Lobata Root Extract, Pinus Palustris Leaf Extract, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Flower Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Coix Lacryma-Jobi Ma-Yuen Seed Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Madecassoside, Asiatic Acid, Asiaticoside, Madecassic Acid, Sodium Phytate

The container for the pads is sealed to keep everything water-tight and still moist. I've only torn the seal a little more half way and kept it that way since I don't use this every night.

Anua Heartleaf Toner Pad texture - you can see the bumpier side here for a slightly stronger exfoliation.

How To Use The Heartleaf Toner Pad:

  1. Cleanse the skin

  2. Gently wipe the face with the bumpier side for exfoliation, or smooth side for a light exfoliation/additional cleansing + toning

  3. Pat in to help absorption.

  4. Use AM or PM routine daily (I only use this some evenings)

  5. Layer on ampoule, serum and moisturizer as usual

Tip for Using Toner Pads As A Mask:

The weather hasn’t gotten there yet for me, but when it gets more dry and cold out there, I love to use the smooth side of the toner pads on my cheeks as mini face masks! Even if they’re only on for about 5 mins in the morning or evening, it can really help add moisture and soothe the skin.

Summing Up:

The Anua Heartleaf 77% Clear Pad has found it’s place in my skincare routine as a quick and light exfoliating and extra cleansing step. I’m still holding out for the best toner pads ever spot in my heart haha but this one’s a solid choice for sure!
