Bridal Makeup Artist Makeup Favourites

Here are just some of the items I carry and LOVE in my bridal makeup kit.

Most of my clients tend to have fair to medium complexions so just keep that in mind when I mention shade selections :)!

This list will be updated over time.

I purchase most of my asian beauty products from all over, but specifically recommend Oomomo’s official store on Amazon for Dasique or Rom& goods. Such a great selection! I also wrote a blog post on where you can find some of the asian beauty brands in Vancouver for more in person options.

Now, let’s get dive in!

Best Primers & Concealers

  • Winter primer: The Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base is perfect for the cold dry months. Sometimes makeup can really highlight dry flakey spots - and this really creates a hydrated and smooth base for foundation and concealer to sit on.

  • Summer primer: Milk Hydro Grip Hydrating Makeup Primer - Great standard long lasting primer for combination skin.

  • Primer for pores and texture: Benefit Porefessional - this is a classic! You only need a tiny bit in the areas you need it (T-zone or areas with larger pores/texture).

  • Numbuzin No.3 Porcelain Base-skip Tone Up Beige - a very blendable tone-up cream / SPF that mixes well with illuminating primers. I use this as a replacement for foundation sometimes since this doesn’t accentuate skin textures. (I used this for Annie’s engagement photoshoot makeup and she raves about this base here!)

  • NARS Creamy Concealer - most common shade for asian skintones is Custard (I’ve tried to find dupes for this and I hate to love this because this runs out in 3 months for me. I typically use this for blemishes but if I’m feeling lazy to bust out the IT Cosmetics bye bye undereye I’ll use this for dark circles too.

  • The Dior Forever Skin Correct Concealer - most common shade for asian skintones is 1.5N - but keep in mind this will oxidize a little. This is very similar coverage than the NARS and is more creamy and a little less drying, the shade 1 or 2N is much more neutral than the NARS (Custard runs a little yellow sometimes).

  • THE BEST HYDRATING Undereye concealer: IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer - get the mini sizes - Either #13 for more lighter skintones or #20 for medium skintones is good for most light medium skintones - even the mini will last a looo0ng time since you only use a TINY bit at a time, I’m talking well over a year. ONLY use this for undereyes though - this doesn’t dry down so it’s more suitable for that area. Set with a setting spray or a lightweight powder for the best finish.

Favourite Eye Makeup Products

  • Kiss Me Heroine Make Long & Curl Mascara in Brown - I love the look of lighter colored brows and brown liner and brown mascara for fair skintones - it doesn’t feel too stark on the face and is so much softer! A must try for low contrast girlies.

  • Kiss Me Heroine Make Retractable Eyeliners - Hang tight, there’s a replacement for #1 eyeliner coming soon when I get a chance to take photos of it!

Favourite blushes and contour for asian skintones

  • Laura Mercier Ginger - Looks great on neutral/warm light to medium skintones. Love a pop of this on the cheeks and carrying a tiny bit over the lids as well!

  • Dior Rosy Glow in Cherry is surprisingly BEAUTIFUL on most skintones - it’s a very realistic flushed color!

  • Clinique Nude Pop is a perfect everyday nudey color, love this when you don’t know which color you’d want to wear or just want something that won’t clash

  • Another Clinique Pop Blush: Heather is also a great healthy elegant looking mauvey pink color great for most skin tones!

  • Fenty Matte Contour Skinstick in Amber Suede is a great neutral contour shade! Super easy to apply and blend out.

  • For a cool-tone powder contour I really like the Peripera Ink V Shading in shade 03 Hazel Grey - this is great for nose contour or outer face contour if you’re more on the neutral/cool tone side, it’s less pigmented than MAC Omega so its easier to blend out and looks more natural.

  • Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blushes - Favourite color for light skintones is Joy, and Believe for light medium skintones. Do not get the matte finish versios of these, they are harder to blend! The radiant finish shades are the best - a little goes A LONG WAY too. I’m pretty sure one of these will last like 20 years.

Best lippies

  • Elizabeth Arden 8-Hour Cream - for super dry chapped lips! I use this for my brides for lip prep and it works wonders. This balmy cream is actually very multipurpose too and you can use it for making perfume stay on longer, dry elbows, adding more ‘dew’ to collarbone or cheekbones etc. It smells a bit grandmother-y though just fyi in case you’re sensitive to scents.

Best setting powder and spray

  • Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Setting Powder - um… I have never known a love like this before for a powder product Hands down the best pressed-setting powder I’ve ever used, it really blurs out skin texture. Just use a super soft bristled brush with this and a light hand because the powder is very soft.

  • Morphe Continuous Setting Mist - Is hands down the best makeup setting spray and has the finest, most even mist! (I like it better than the Urban Decay and the MUFE one because those literally can feel like droplets on the face). This setting mist will create a small film almost over the skin and will ensure the longevity of your makeup. The CT one is a close second (it has a dewier finish), only because I like the mister on this a bit better.

The rest is to be continued! Stay tuned :)
